Read more about Sunless Tanning Lotions here:
There are a few different ways to go about applying a "spray on tan" in today's
sunless tanning market.
You may buy a "tan in a can" like the
one pictured here, which retails for about $50.
Or you can buy lotion in a
bottle that you spread over your body with your
hands for $20 or less. You may also buy an air brush tanning system for less
than $500, which includes everything you need to
spray yourself manually with the DHA chemical
using the same type of system that body artists,
cake decorators, and auto body shops employ.
This technician style application or airbrushing technique is more preferred
by most people because of
the personal attention and spa type feel of this
sunless tanning experience. The salon owner may charge more
for this type of session versus the automatic spray booth type and even sell packages which "combine"
the automatic and manual applications, using
the airbrush system for "touch up". The
Magic Tan MT3500 has an optional airbrush
tanning attachment just for this reason and
marketing concept. Check out the
used Magic Tan MT3500 with optional air brush
attachment for sale here.
To read more about the sunless tanning process,
keep reading here: There is a FDA approved a chemical
called DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) which interacts
with your dead skin layer to turn it
brown
(not orange...urban legend). Keep in mind, your "dead skin" layer sheds every
day depending on your hygiene and exfoliation
habits. Therefore, if you exfoliate and
hydrate your skin (see
hydration
station) prior to a sunless tan your "tan"
or dead skin layer will last 5-7 days. It
is more common to combine UV tanning
with sunless spray tanning to meet the
consumer's desires to reduce their UV exposure and to
tan their face and other areas they normally
would not expose to UV light.
If you would like to offer your customers a "UV free" or "sunless" tanning option,
your choices are: offer
sunless tanning lotions for about
$20, get an airbrush tanning system for less than $500, buy a
used spray tan booth for $5k-$10k, or a combination of all 3 to help increase salon revenue.

Pictured here is a complete airbrush tanning system for commercial, home, or
mobile use. After
careful review of all products and filtering through the many systems on the market today, I have found this setup to be the most complete sunless tanning system in-a-box you can buy.
This system includes both a single-action
suction feed airbrush and trigger style gravity
feed spray gun for the largest and smallest
applications.
This system can be installed in a salon by placing the compressor in a cabinet with the hose fed through a hole drilled through the side. This cabinet
hides the compressor, suppresses the noise, and stores the supplies needed during sunless tanning session.
This system is also light-weight for portability
and the package comes with a pop up tent for
mobile applications.
