About 30 US states now require a "health inspection" of tanning salons.
To find out if your state requires health inspections, simply contact your local county health department and
request the "tanning bed operator" package, and they will fax, mail, or email to you, their tanning salon operator package
or what ever they call it. They will
assign
a state inspector to visit your salon and go over a list of
expectations your salon must meet before opening for business.
Please ask the inspector what to expect when they arrive, and if you know what to expect you can be ready for the test
and pass in a timely manner. If you are an existing
tanning salon, there may be documents which you must have on premises and available to any health dept employee at any time for review,
these include your business license, insurance documents, health dept inspection report, tanning lamp equivalency forms (if required), tanning bed owner's manual, tanning salon
operator instructions, tanning salon injury report (if required), every member's signed membership form with required liability waiver signed.
